Course Layout
Golf
The
history of the golf course goes back to 1893 when a short (1291 yard),
6-hole course, designed by Thomas Bendelow, was built on the east shore
of Lake Mahopac. The course moved to the north shore of the Lake in 1900
as a 9-hole, 2730-yard layout. It was extended to a full 18-hole in
1913, designed by Devereux Emmet.
Today's 6523 yard golf course was recently renovated by noted architect
Ken Dye and features well bunkered small fast greens. The signature hole
is #9, a 390-yard,
dogleg left par 4,
requiring a tee shot up a narrow fairway, and an approach to an elevated
green protected by four green side bunkers
Instruction
 Junior Clinic
Our golf professional runs a very successful program for junior golfers between 8
and 14 years of
age. This program is available to all children of
members, regardless of the type of membership the
parent has or the
skill level of the child. The children meet one evening a week for an
hour and a half during the months of July and August, where they are
taught the basics of the game and get to play the course. There is a
year-end tournament in September, where the children are grouped
according to age and skill level. Immediately after the tournament there
is a big party for parents and children, where everyone gets a trophy.

Private
Golf Lessons
Lessons are available either from the head golf professional, Terence
Hughes, or his assistants. Teaching is normally done at the
driving range
and other practice areas; however, playing lessons are also available,
where the student plays the golf course with the professional, as
instruction takes place.
Short Game Schools
Our specialized short game instruction covers putting, chipping,
pitching and bunker play. Utilizing our short game instruction area, we
cover all scoring shots to the green. This is always the most beneficial
instruction program offered at Mahopac. Contact pro shop for dates and
times. $180.00 per student $60.00 per extra pupil. Maximum 4
Students per Instructor
Playing Lessons
This wonderful day
of instruction and play is always a positive experience for those
golfers trying to get to the next level. Whether trying to break 70 or
110, you'll definitely benefit from this session. Session includes
lunch, cart and 9/18 holes ($180/$250) of play, add $75/$100 per extra
player.
Beginner's School
Our series of
lessons for beginning students includes (5) one hour sessions in a small
group format. This is the best way to introduce students to the game.
Our instruction groups cover all of the fundamentals necessary to begin
a long enjoyable life on the golf course. $200.00 per student. Minimum
of 3 students per group.
